About my interpreting experience

In 1986, as a first-year student of Slavic Language and Literature, I interpreted for the first time within the framework of the city link between Den Briel and Havlíčkův Brod. In military service I was repeatedly used as an interpreter during meetings between high-ranking officers and during my stay in the Czech Republic between 1994 and 1998 I was active as an interpreter almost daily, especially in my capacity as a representative of a Dutch travel agency in Prague for the Dutch embassy and for the Prague police. After my return to the Netherlands I interpreted intensively for many years, especially for the IND. In recent years I have been interpreting for the Justice Department, notaries, private individuals and various (government) agencies such as the UWV and the Child Care and Protection Board.

About me (place of birth, native language, other details)

I was born in Prague. When I was 2 years old, my parents settled in Holland as Czech emigrants. I was raised bilingual here - we spoke Czech at home and I was a member of the "Czechoslovak Scouts in Exile." After studying Slavic Language and Literature in Leiden and special military service, I worked in Prague for 5 years for a Dutch travel agency the Dutch embassy and as a freelance interpreter-translator. Since the beginning of the new millennium I have been working fully as a freelance interpreter-translator in the Netherlands.
