My strengths as an interpreter

As an interpreter, I excel at conveying information clearly and accurately, while always keeping context in mind. I have a strong command of Somali, Dutch, and English, and can easily adapt to different conversation partners and situations. My background in communications (having worked for over 10 years at a well-known NGO) helps me clearly understand complex information and convey it accurately. In addition, I am analytical, a good listener, and able to distinguish between main and secondary issues. I work professionally and discreetly, and I believe it is important to remain neutral and reliable as an interpreter. Thanks to my experience with various organizations and a wide range of conversational situations, I am accustomed to handling sensitive information and differing interests with care. I am also calm, flexible, and eager to learn, which allows me to adapt quickly to new topics and work environments.

About my interpreting experience

I have been working as a Somali-Dutch interpreter for more than two years and, during that time, have carried out interpreting assignments through various agencies. My experience includes a wide range of conversations in which I verbally convey information between Dutch and Somali. Thanks to my previous work experience in international and social organizations, I am accustomed to dealing with a variety of conversation partners, topics, and work environments. This combination has given me a broad foundation that allows me to quickly familiarize myself with new situations and topics.

About me (place of birth, native language, other details)

I was born in Somalia, and Somali is my native language. I also have a high level of proficiency in Dutch and English. My multilingual background and my interest in different cultures have played an important role in my education and career. My passion for language began at an early age and was also the reason I chose to study English language and culture. For me, language is more than just a means of conveying information: language fosters connection and enables people to truly understand one another. It is precisely in this that I see an important role for myself as an interpreter. I find it rewarding to help people who speak a different language effectively convey their stories, questions, and concerns. My background gives me a natural understanding of different linguistic and cultural perspectives. I want to use this experience and my passion for language in a way that can truly make a difference in people’s lives.
