About my interpreting experience
As an interpreter, I have gained extensive experience within various industries, including healthcare, police, Immigration and Naturalization Service (IND). In each of these environments, effective communication is crucial, and I pride myself on my role in facilitating this. In health care, I work closely with health care providers and patients. I help patients clearly articulate their concerns, symptoms and questions so that healthcare professionals can provide appropriate support. This can make a big difference in the quality of care patients receive, especially for those who do not speak the language. In policing, it is essential that the right information is conveyed at the right time. During witness statements or interviews, I make sure that all parties understand each other, which contributes to a fair and transparent procedure. My job is to bridge the gap between those involved and help them share their stories. In my work with the IND, I support people applying for asylum or seeking a residence permit. It is my responsibility to ensure that their stories and situations are accurately conveyed so that their applications are judged fairly. This requires great sensitivity and understanding of the challenges these individuals face.
