How Medical Interpreting Works
The interpreter usually sits next to the client and interprets either consecutively or simultaneously:
- Consecutive interpreting: Speakers pause every few sentences to allow the interpreter to speak.
- Simultaneous interpreting: The interpreter speaks while the speaker is still talking. For this method, a short break is required every 20–30 minutes, or a second interpreter may be needed to continue without interruption.
