If you (or your employee or colleague) do not fully master the Dutch language, you need an interpreter, for example during a meeting with the health and safety doctor or when you visit the general practitioner or a medical specialist. With such important and sensitive topics it is wise to rule out miscommunication . In addition, you also want the conversation to be professional and to be treated confidentially.
A certified interpreter at Tolk2Go
In the Netherlands, anyone can establish themselves as an independent interpreter or translator. They are liberal professions.
If an interpreter wants to work with us, the interpreter must have a diploma or certificate from a:
- interpreting training at at least bachelor's level;
- comparable foreign diploma at a satisfactory level, valued by Nuffic.

The preparation
If desired, you can send the interpreter information about the subject in advance, so that the interpreter can prepare properly. On the one hand, the interpreter will prepare the most suitable translations for Dutch medical terms that do not occur in the target language. The interpreter will then word the term in such a way that it is clear what it is about. On the other hand, the interpreter will prepare for any medical argon, which is important in the conversation. After receiving the documents, the interpreter will indicate how much preparation time is needed.
interpreting
The interpreter sits next to the person to whom the interpreter is interpreting. Interpretation takes place consecutively or simultaneously. This means that the interpreter interprets while speaking. When necessary, the speakers wait after every few sentences for the interpretation to be completed. This is called consecutive interpreting. Simultaneous interpreting requires a break of 10 to 15 minutes every 45 minutes.
Costs
The costs quoted on the website are calculated per hour, plus the kilometer rate for travel time and travel costs. This does not include the preparation time. The interpreter will discuss any necessary preparation time with you in advance, so that this does not become an unpleasant surprise afterwards. The preparation time and possible extension of the conversation are added to the invoice at the interpreter's hourly rate.
