Why do interpreter hourly rates vary?

All interpreters on our platform are freelancers. They set their own hourly rates based on experience, availability, and specialization.

Why do prices differ per situation?

Some assignments are more demanding. For example, simultaneous interpretation at a conference is more intensive than a simple tour. More demanding = higher rate.

What are the travel costs?

Travel costs include transportation and travel time. Interpreters charge per kilometer “as the crow flies,” and they set their own travel rates.

How is the all-in rate calculated?

The all-in rate includes interpreter time, travel, and service costs.

What is additional work, and how is it billed?

Most assignments follow the quoted rate. But in some cases—like longer durations or special prep—Tolk2Go may invoice additional work. See the next sections.

How is preparation time calculated?

If the interpreter needs to review documents, attend briefings, or research a topic, this time is billed as “preparation.” Agree in advance how much is expected.

What other costs may apply?

Examples: whisper sets, high parking fees, or other agreed-upon extras. Please discuss these with your interpreter beforehand.

What if the interpreting takes longer than booked?

We’ll invoice the extra time. But note: some interpreters may have other appointments, so please be punctual and plan accurately.

What if it ends earlier?

You’ll still be billed the full amount. The interpreter reserved the time for your appointment and turned down other jobs.
