About me (place of birth, native language, other details)
My name is Durmus Aydin born in 1966 in Arpacay Kars. I am a certified interpreter in Turkish (C1) and Azerbaijani (B2) language. In addition, I also interpret in Turkman (Iraq). My grandparents and parents are originally from Azerbaijan but at some point moved to Turkey where I was born. At home we always spoke Azerbaijani but at school and with friends we spoke Turkish. It has its advantages to be raised multilingual, especially if one day you suddenly decide to become an interpreter! I worked for years as a regional manager in the business world until I had to undergo several operations and the rehabilitation took years. Once I got away from the hectic pace of the day and the sales targets to be met, the feeling crept up on me that maybe I wanted to spend the rest of my life differently. I eventually decided to take a college interpreter training program, specializing in "Court Interpreter in Criminal Cases". By now I have a wide range of knowledge and skills. As a sworn interpreter I am registered with the Sworn Interpreters and Translators Act. I have taken an oath with the court and have a duty of confidentiality. I also have a Certificate of Good Behavior and must maintain my professional competence through continuing education activities. I have also been tested on my language and interpreting skills. I have a code of conduct to which I must adhere and, of course, a duty of confidentiality. I am extremely happy that I dared to take the step to make a career switch. Going back to school at a higher age takes time and motivation, but once I start working as an interpreter, I experience again and again how enjoyable and diverse it is. I am not only busy with language but also with culture. I work from home as a telephone interpreter via conference call or as a video interpreter and also on location (the Netherlands, Belgium and Curaçao). I enter worlds where I would normally never be able to take a look and through all conversations in both profit and non-profit sector I hear and learn a lot because I am on top of all current developments. At the invitation of an organization, non-native speakers often take a family member or an acquaintance with them. What they often don't realize is that there is no quality control on translation, acting, independence, privacy and no guarantee of confidentiality. I therefore hope to assist you by phone, video or on location. Kind regards / Dostane selamlarımla Durmus Aydin
