My strengths as an interpreter
Interpreting is right up my alley, thinking fast, switching gears and building bridges. Moreover, I completed the Postgraduate Certificate in Conference Interpreting English in Brussels at KU Leuven under the guidance of people from the conference interpreting world. In addition to teachers who were all active in the profession, I was also personally coached by EU interpreters. I have a university master's degree in (legal) translation from Leiden University. I was sworn in as an interpreter before the Court of Rotterdam in November 2020 on top of my swearing in as a translator since the end of 2015.
About my interpreting experience
Notary interpreting: I regularly interpret for notaries, I interpret simultaneously and take my whisper set with me. In this way I ensure that the client can understand and follow me well and I avoid disturbing the notary. Conference interpreting: I was trained in Brussels as an English conference interpreter and have experience as a conference interpreter at events and meetings of multinationals, cooperatives, NGOs, universities, colleges and museums. Clients are positive about me because I think with the organization and am flexible, I convey the message while preserving the speaker's non-verbal cues, my voice is pleasant to listen to and I am punctual. Culturally sensitive experience: I do assignments for an NGO working for freedom and justice with a particular focus on human rights. They help human rights fighters worldwide who are in danger; they temporarily host these people in the Netherlands through a program and then train them. I have also done interpreting work for TeamUp of WarChild and during an (online) training of OxfamNovib Canada. I come from an educational background and before I became an interpreter I worked for 17 years in education in Rotterdam, so I worked with people from many different cultures.
