My strengths as an interpreter
I am empathetic and as an interpreter I try to make sure that no wall is created between the parties. My goal is to make the conversation flow as smoothly as possible so that one hardly notices that a third party (interpreter) is involved.
About my interpreting experience
I am a social and sworn translator/interpreter since 2015. I am a lawyer by training but converted to interpreter in 2015. I am a social and sworn interpreter for Portuguese, Spanish and French with the basic language being Dutch each time. I mainly have experience in the Flemish social sector, Advocacy, Construction sector and official bodies such as police, prisons, NSSO, CGVS, customs,....
About me (place of birth, native language, other details)
I am Cathérine, 43 years old, living in Antwerp. I was born in Ekeren, province of Antwerp. My mother tongue is Dutch. I have lived abroad for many years. In my childhood I lived 5 years in the Netherlands, afterwards I lived 1 year in Perú, 1 year in Portugal and 1 year in Brazil. I have been married to a Brazilian and I have a Belgian/Brazilian daughter.
Credentials
As I mentioned, I am a lawyer by training. I did my Law studies in 3 languages. I did my first 2 years in French in Namur (FUNDP Namur), then in Dutch in Leuven (KUL) and my last year in Portuguese at the Universidade de Coimbra, Portugal. Meanwhile, I trained as a social and sworn translator/interpreter and obtained the necessary certificates at the Integration Integration Agency (social interpreting) and at the KULeuven - Antwerp Department (sworn interpreting).
