My strengths as an interpreter
I specialise in pharmaceutical, medical and nutritional themes, court cases (any law) and notary assignments, as well as corporate events, real estate, universities & other eductional institutions (participation meetings, budget distribution meetings, sustainability events etc.). I have also interpreted many times within the climate area, for nautical cases and for clients who work in the social services area. I mainly interpret Dutch < > English and some Dutch < > Norwegian as well as Norwegian < > English. When I interpret into English, I speak British English, but I speak clearly enough so that English speaking people from non-British countries can also easily follow what I am saying. Clients have told me that I have a calm and trusting voice and I have gained a lot of knowledge in a lot of areas. Before I start a job, I always prepare myself as much as possible.
About my interpreting experience
I have nearly 15 years as an active interpreter under my belt mixed in with some written translation jobs. My portfolio contains a variety of clients, amongst others some well-known companies, law firms as well as people who work for the police, immigration, social services, schools and hospitals. I really enjoy my job and I take pride in my work. I make it my priority to deliver the best possible work to my clients.
About me (place of birth, native language, other details)
I am born in Arnhem in the Netherlands. I studied French at the University in Leiden and I got a BA degree in Mass Communication & Media Studies from the University in Bergen (Norway). I also have a Master of Arts from the University of Amsterdam in "Cultural Studies - Publicistics & Journalism". I lived in Norway for ten years, where I learned to speak Norwegian fluently. During my time in Norway and later on back in the Netherlands, I worked for TV and radio for several years. In addition to that, I wrote copy for magazines and websites and did written translation work. I then made the switch to interpreting and added a Bachelor's degree in Interpreting from/to English to my CV in 2019 from an accredited institution in The Netherlands. Additionally, I spent many months in the UK to explore the court system and do courses to help me become a better interpreter. Furthermore, I provide written translations in the language combination NL < > EN, NL < > NO, EN < > NO as well, but I predominantly focus on interpreting work NL < > EN. I would describe my English as near-native, my Norwegian as fluent and Dutch is my mother tongue.
